BiTween was founded by three individuals in June, 1999, to provide professional services to High-tech companies. The team has extensive experience in IT, including Multimedia and Telecommunication Technology. The experiences gained while providing solutions to different companies with different needs makes the Bitween team key information holders in the field of new technologies for Web-based and Wireless applications. BiTween members have complimentary skills and experiences in developing new technologies for the Internet, Intranet and Wireless and mobile applications. Having the technical proficiency that is a critical factor of every company’s success, BiTween was engaged in important projects in Italy for Samsung Electronics S.P.A., Brondi S.P.A. and Gensoft ITT S:P.A.
In the Q1 of 2000, BiTween was responsible for the development and advancement of technology for following the status of every mobile Phone for the main Service Centers in Italy . The plan offered the possibility to control the state of the equipment through the Internet, and could directly predict and identify eventual breakdowns. This kind of system was revolutionary in 2000 because it allowed the Service Center to see the job list and status of every repair, for each customer, on the Internet in real time.
Bitween , in this particular case, changed the service from a basic process of checking the Service Center into a powerful service marketing instrument. On the basis of this success, another project with a very similar concept but on a much larger scale began in April 2000, for Samsung Italy S.p.A. A new concept system was planned called “Y2K WIRELESS SERVICE NEW MILLENIUM.” The software was created to manage a Service Center for repair and other technical services in local and remote areas via the Internet which enabled a more flexible and useful tool to follow the movement of all the Samsung Terminals to be repaired. It allowed the service center to replace or repair a broken mobile phone in less than 15 days when all the other manufacturers had an average cycle of 30 days. With overall time savings of 50%, the project lead to a competitive marketing boost for Samsung in the sales and service statistics of TIM, the major operator in Italy.
The system takes advantage of a particular kind of technology, subsequently called D-Push (Database Push). Thanks to this new technology, shops could better control the status of jobs. Moreover, the system produced real time statistics. The Samsung relationship continued to grow, and in June 2000 BiTween signed an agreement to develop a control system with Samsung Italy S.P.A. dealing with the general control of the sale flows of Samsung’s City Point.
In Q3, 2000 BiTween signed a trade agreement with Gensoft ITT S.P.A. to develop their product line; one of the first was Translation. This product line, based on socket technology, was a group of new conception software for translations (texts, e-mail, web), that can be used with any kind of browser. The agreements with Gensoft ITT S.P.A. lead BiTween to create a new concept of WAP engine which is intended to be used as Server and Gateway. During Q4, 2000 BiTween released a new version of the software that was compatible with most of the major phones in the market. Based on this success, a new innovative idea was created by BiTween: Personal WAP, a revolutionary Micro-Gateway for the navigation and interaction with a PC via WAP.
For this product and for Mini Office product also for Gensoft, BiTween was a finalist at the SMAU, the biggest Competition for the Italian fairs. The product took part in the final selection at 33° SMAU award. Moreover, it was granted a micro-gateway WAP version for Win32 (NT and 2000) and Linux (Red Hat KDE) in November of 2000. The collaboration BiTween-Gensoft ITT continued until Q2 2001 with production of an amazing number of products. Overall, a catalog of 40 titles was created in just 18 months of collaboration with Gensoft ITT, making BiTween the most productive software house for them at that time.
In Q4 2000 BiTween also signed an agreement with Brondi S.P.A. to develop a business service on Internet. The project aimed at managing all the Service Centers in Italy , more than 120 Service Centers in all.
In 2001 BiTween recognized that the future markets would not be only for the PC, but would also include new segments like PDAs and Mobile and Wireless Terminals.
BiTween released the first version of Remote Control for PocketPC and Palm OS and started to make agreements for projects that involved many larger companies like Vodafone , TIM and Microsoft. Later that year, BiTween became one of the major partners for the PocketPC development in Italy .
In Q4 2001 BiTween released many applications for PocketPC, including the business solutions Work Management and Sales Management. They also provided a Wireless Wizard for Vodafone in collaboration with Hewlett Packard (HP).
In 2002 BiTween became a Microsoft partner and an HP technological partner for the PocketPC platform. At the same time Bitween started to release many applications for Symbian mobile phones such as the award winning Remote Control for Nokia 9200 Series and the Sony Ericsson P800 device. Other applications included the Photo Editor and Mobile Fax. These three applications are becoming the foundation of the major business applications for Symbian Mobile Phones.
In Q4 2002 BiTween became an official Symbian Platinum Partner worldwide and will be the first Italian company to have this partnership status with Symbian.
In 2003 BiTween was one of the most productive companies and well respected software houses that develop applications for mobile phones. Their partnerships include with Forum Nokia, Sony Ericsson, Symbian, Vodafone, Orange , TIM, WIND, Ericsson mobility World and IBM.
In Q2 2003 BiTween won the Symbian Developer Competition 2003 as a best enterprise solution for Symbian Mobile Phones and was announced as a Finalist of the Handango Champions Awards.
